Why we started People Champions

People Champions began with a coaching conversation. Around five years ago, Duncan was at a crossroads in his career. He was working with Julia as his coach, trying to figure out his next move, when she said something that stuck: "You'd make a great coach." It was an offhand comment, but it planted a seed.

Duncan looked into coaching qualifications, discovered Animas Coaching, attended a free webinar, and was immediately convinced. He completed the course over the course of a year and has not looked back since.

Three years ago, Duncan came back to Julia with an idea. What if they built something together? People Champions was the result, and the mission was clear from the start.

Too many people are promoted into leadership without being given the tools to lead. Businesses look at their strongest performers and assume leadership is the natural next step. Sometimes it is. But often it is not, and even when it is the right move, almost nothing changes in terms of support or training. The person who was brilliant at doing the job is now expected to inspire, coach, influence, delegate, and manage performance, often with no roadmap and no real preparation. That gap between being good at the work and being effective as a leader is where we spend most of our time.

People Champions exists to close that gap. We work with individuals and organisations across the UK, delivering one to one coaching, practical soft skills workshops, DISC profiling, team coaching, and our Leadership IQ assessment app. The goal is straightforward: help people lead well, build stronger working relationships, and get the best out of themselves and their teams.

This is not theory. It is practical coaching grounded in real workplace challenges, built on the belief that great leadership is learnable and that the right support at the right time makes all the difference.
